Our EYFS (Willow Class)
Willow Class is a happy, vibrant, and engaging place to learn, where curiosity is encouraged, and every child is supported to thrive. We are proud to be part of our small village school, where strong relationships and a nurturing ethos lie at the heart of everything we do.
Our newly refurbished classroom provides a bright, modern, and flexible learning environment, designed to inspire creativity, collaboration, and independence. Whether we’re exploring new topics, working together on projects, or enjoying outdoor learning, there’s always something exciting happening in Willow Class.
Led by Mrs Sturgeon, our full-time class teacher, we focus on building confidence, resilience, and a love of learning in every child. We value kindness, respect, and a sense of belonging—and we’re always ready to welcome families and visitors into our learning journey.
This starts with stay and play sessions run throughout the year leading up to your child starting school. We welcome you and your child to come into the classroom to meet us and stay for some fun activities.
What a typical day looks like in Willow class
A typical day in Willow Class involves a rich balance of child-initiated play, adult-guided activities, and more formal teaching sessions such as phonics and maths. We believe in learning through play, while also laying strong foundations in key skills.
Children enjoy weekly music lessons with a specialist teacher, and in the summer term, they take part in twice-weekly swimming sessions, helping to build water confidence and physical development in a fun and supportive setting.
Once a school place has been offered
To support a smooth and positive start to school life, we offer a comprehensive transition programme. Once a school place has been offered:
- Families are invited to attend stay and play sessions throughout the year.
- We carry out home visits, giving families the opportunity to meet staff in a familiar environment.
- Children also attend transition sessions without parents, helping them to build confidence and begin to form relationships with staff and classmates.
Our aim is to provide a calm and joyful start to school life, building strong foundations for learning and ensuring every child feels happy, secure, and ready to shine.
Getting ready for school
These are some of the things that it would be useful for your child to be able to do before they start school.
